Facial Revitalisation

Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture is a virtually painless, non-surgical method of reducing the signs of the aging process. It is however far more than a cosmetic procedure and a course of treatment is designed help the whole body look and feel younger. Underlying patterns of disharmony in the body are apparent in the condition of the skin of the face – by treating these in combination with specific areas of concern on the face such as puffiness, wrinkles or skin blemishes, acupuncture can have a profound revitalising and rejuvenating effect.

What are the effects?

Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture may help to improve muscle tone and dermal contraction, especially in the face and neck, giving patients a younger more vital appearance.

It has been shown to increase collagen production and aids in its dispersal thus helping to firm the skin and fill out wrinkles. Bags and sagging around the eyes, face and neck may be reduced and toned up. The treatments may help to improve metabolism, resulting in a reduction of puffiness.

As Acupuncture is thought to affect the regulation of hormones in the body, conditions like acne and overly dry skin can be helped. Women who are experiencing menopausal symptoms often find that these also significantly improve.

By substantially increasing the circulation of blood, lymph, and Qi to the head the complexion brightens and clears. Healthy facial colouring can be restored and there is a tightening of the pores. Stress and habitual expressions which are so visible on the face are addressed resulting in a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes and mouth. The result is a remarkably younger, calmer and less worn looking appearance.

At the same time as seeing changes to your face you will also notice that because acupuncture works by focussing on the whole body and the underlying causes of aging and disease, pre-existing health conditions may be improved.

Who would benefit from Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture?

Anyone concerned with looking and feeling younger and slowing down the aging process could benefit from Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture, as well as those with specific concerns or skin conditions.

It is suitable for those with deep wrinkles, fine lines, bags under the eyes, sagging, puffiness, drooping eyelids, double chin, large pores, dry skin or acne. How an individual is aging will determine the diagnosis and treatment strategy. A person with excess puffiness, for example, would require a different treatment than someone with dry skin.

The whole person is treated and evaluated with a full Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnosis.

What is the course of Treatment?

Usually 12 treatments are recommended but this will depend on the individual, their concerns, and their condition and lifestyle prior to treatment.

Each person responds differently – often differences can be seen as early as the second or third treatment, but effects become most noticeable and lasting after around seven treatments. A 1996 study in the International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture found that 90% of patients had marked effects with one course of treatment (ie. 12 sessions).

Following the initial course, maintenance sessions can prolong the results for 5 to 10 years.

What happens during a treatment?

Each treatment lasts 1½ hours. The initial consultation involves an in depth look at your health and discussion about your specific areas of concern. A full Chinese Medical Diagnosis is made to determine the best treatment for you.

The needles are then gently inserted into points in your ears, legs and arms and torso as required. The face is thoroughly cleansed with organic facial products before gentle scalp and face needling begins.

Needles are left in for approximately half an hour during which most people report a feeling of deep relaxation. After removal of the needles you will receive a relaxing neck, shoulder, face and scalp massage using a very light organic floral facial oil to end the treatment.
